Building Waveland's Future, Together
A letter from Mayor Jay Trapani.
A City on the Move
Waveland has gone through unbelievable growth, both commercial and residential, under my leadership. From a new Marriott hotel, Chick-fil-A, and additional national retail brands to pier improvements, Waveland is a city on the move.
When I took office in January 2023, I made a commitment to bring the same energy, discipline, and results-focused mindset I used in the private sector to the job of serving Waveland. I didn't come up through the ranks of politics. I came up through the school of making things happen. Every new business that opens its doors, every pier board replaced, every family that chooses to build their home here. That's what drives me.
"The City of Waveland is a business, and needs to be run as one."
While campaigning in 2022, I promised that if elected I would move Waveland forward to pre-Katrina status, and then some. South of the railroad tracks, where almost every building was damaged or destroyed, we've made huge progress, but we still have more to do. On Hwy 90 and north of the tracks, we have progressed further than we were in 2005.
We are currently developing a new Comprehensive Plan for Waveland, Compass 2046. I've listened to Waveland residents firsthand in public workshops, and their vision for this city's future guides everything we do. Compass 2046 will guide us and future generations as we move Waveland forward.
I stand behind my statement from the previous election. I believe I am the candidate in this race with the qualifications necessary to provide leadership in fiscal matters, public affairs, contract negotiations, grant solicitation, and city planning. Waveland has over 75 full-time employees and an additional 20 part-time employees. The Mayor must have experience managing people. I've managed people through most of my professional career, and I have the ability to motivate individuals to get positive results.
We have so much momentum right now. I'm asking for the honor of your vote on October 6 so that we can keep building a Waveland that our families are proud to call home.
